The ALS Association, Minnesota Chapter invites you to participate in the 2008 Rochester Walk to Defeat ALS on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at East Silver Lake Park.

ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system. ALS is characterized by the death of the motor neurons, resulting in a gradual wasting away of voluntary muscles, often leading to total paralysis.  The life expectancy of a person living with ALS is usually two to five years from diagnosis.  There is no known cause or cure for ALS, but advances in medical technology are allowing ALS patients to lead more productive lives.

By participating in the Walk, both walkers and donors directly impact the lives of those affected by ALS as well as spread awareness for this devastating disease and the urgent need to find treatments and a cure. The Walk to Defeat ALS, along with other fundraising events, has helped the Minnesota Chapter raise over two and a half million dollars in the last seven years.  These dollars directly support local patient services and nationally directed research.

Please join us on September 6 to help spread awareness of ALS, to support local patient services, and to find a cure for Lou Gehrig’s Disease!
