Overview:
The
Rochester International Airport, Rochester’s sole airport, is located just eight miles south of downtown, accessible by Hwy 63 or Interstate 90. The airport includes two major air carriers and two cargo carriers. The airport services flights from around the world connected through American Eagle (American Airlines) and Northwest Airlines. The City of Rochester owns the property and most buildings, while the Rochester Airport Company (RAC) operates the airport under an operating agreement with the City of Rochester. RAC is a private company and a subsidiary of the Mayo Clinic- Rochester.

Rochester International Airport's History:
Rochester Airport became an international airport when U.S. Customs was added in October 1995. The airport opened Sept. 25, 1960, is owned by the city of Rochester, and is managed by the Rochester Airport Co., a subsidiary of Mayo Foundation.

At the time data for this edition of Welcome to Rochester was being gathered, Rochester International was handling daily flights to and from two hubs: Four Northwest Airlines flights departing to and arriving from Minneapolis-St. Paul and two American Airlines flights departing to and arriving from Chicago.

Air cargo operations were added in 1995 with Airborne Express and Federal Express. The airport has made major improvements to that area of operations in recent years, including a new entrance road, utilities, security fencing and a new apron and taxiways to accommodate permanent air cargo facilities.

The airport has two concourses at the main terminal for regularly scheduled domestic arrivals and departures and occasional charter operations. General parking has 700 spaces with short- and long-term parking.

Regent Aviation, a full-service general aviation establishment at the Rochester airport, provides pilot training, fuel, maintenance, repairs, and most general services for the private plane owner.

Overnight tie-down is available, as well as hanger space for overnight or long-term storage. Services for business or corporate traffic include arranging hotel accommodations, limo services, rental cars, catering, and private charters.

On the airport campus, travelers will find hotel accommodations with Country Inn & Suites, dining at the Hanger Bar & Grill, a salon, a bank, and several other businesses.
