Rochester Civic Theatre began 55 years ago when 10 theater enthusiasts called themselves The Log Cabin Players and staged Moss Hart’s “Light Up the Sky.”

Entering its 55th season, Rochester Civic Theatre has grown into an award-winning, high quality artistic resource that provides adult and children’s productions, educational programs, touring shows and social services support for nearly 50,000 people annually. RCT is the largest community theatre in Minnesota.

Rochester Civic Theatre also offers theater education classes for adults and children through Community Education. Summer Theatre Institute offers nine two-week sessions of their popular theatre arts camp, teaching classes in dance, music, improvisation and acting for students in third grade through college freshmen. Classes run 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Two one-week non-musical sessions are available for grades 10 through college freshmen and one week non-musical session for grades 2 and up. Performances for all the class sessions will be held for family and friends on the Saturday following the last day of class. For more information, contact RCT box office.

Rochester Civic Theatre Academy offers theatre classes for students in grades 3-12, focusing on vocal training, movement, improvisation, stage combat, music, dance, script analysis, characterization, and audition skills. Limited enrollment affords maximum individual coaching for each participant.

Another community service is the Touch Continuum/No Easy Answers troupes - One of the nation’s longest continuous-running troupes presenting sexual abuse awareness and prevention programs to students in grades 2, 5 and middle school. This program is co-sponsored by Victim Services and Rochester Public Schools.
