The Rochester Chamber Music Society (RCMS) was formed in 2003 "to promote chamber music in a personal, accessible, and artistically excellent manner."
Chamber Music was originally intended for presentation in a room – a chamber, as opposed to a church, a theater or a public concert hall. The music was performed to entertain small social gatherings. In this tradition, RCMS presents duets, trios, quartets, and similar small ensemble works in concert four times per year in Rochester. A wide variety of music is performed each season that spans musical periods and genres. The musicians engage RCMS audiences with their talents and insights and are available after each concert to answer questions or discuss the performance.
Rochester pianist and RCMS Artistic Director, Horacio Nuguid, led this vision for a local music series focused on chamber music, when in the year 2000, he along with other musicians "tested the waters" by presenting concerts under the name RST Chamber Music Series. Dr. Nuguid continued to invite other musicians to perform and in 2003, the renamed Rochester Chamber Music Society was officially formed. RCMS is a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
